Atopica?

I realize this community is not veterinary advice, but I wonder if anyone has given their cats a drug called atopica? That is the marketing name they are using for cyclosporine. It’s being suggested as an ongoing treatment for my cat Bridey’s chronic allergies. It works by suppressing her immune system so I’m just trying to think it through before making a decision. I would be glad to hear people's experiences with it.

I haven't given my cat it although she has allergies but her's are managed with grain free food. However, as a sufferer of autoimmune diseases myself I do know that an immunosuppressant like the one you mention does help with autoimmune diseases in people, and as allergies are caused by the reaction of the immune system to foreign substances in the body (pollen, dust, grains etc) then this drug might indeed stop your cat's body from overacting to the allergens. It seems that it is prescribed to animals as well and I guess the best way would be to try it and see if it helps.

You're very welcome. I hope her allergies are soon under control and she feels better :)

I had a kitty (icon) with autoimmune issues and seasonal allergies, and atopica was (maybe literally!) a lifesaver for her. It tastes really awful and wasn't her favorite experience, but I'm very glad we found out about it.
