New administrator

 Hi everyone! 

I succeeded in getting this community transferred to me since its previous administrator had been inactive for ages. 

Unfortunately, the fall semester has taken all my time, and one of my own cats has not been well. 

But out perhaps we can use this post now to start a discussion about what we like to see in a refreshed community.

What should DW's cat community be like?

Yes! I wonder if the new DW image capacity extends to communities. I need to check that.

Would like to see pictures of cats too - I am doing a big photo project at the moment so should be able to find some of mine. I still love to discuss cats even tho I have none of my own any more (empty nest syndrome)

Definitely cat pictures, of course. But advice on cat care would be extremely welcome. Also, maybe tips/a general beginner's post for new cat owners. Also, posts for adoption events would probably be cool.

I suppose I could look up resources on the internet and link them.

All good suggestions. We would need to be mindful of geography when posting adoption things. But it could work!

Pfff. Both of my cats happened by accident so I definitely wouldn't be one to write about actually planning to get a cat. XD

That's an option, and you can also ask the community if anyone would like to offer any input.

Oh, yeah, I would assume all adoption posts would be tagged with location and such.

A daily or weekly question would really help to get activity going. "Share a photo of your cat looking undignified. We'll never tell." "What would happen if someone tried to pat your cat's belly or touch their paws? Include belly or paw photos if you have them!"

An excellent, creative idea that I will flagrantly steal and apply. But anyone should feel free to start a question post! I know that it is not realistic for me to think of a cat question for every day, but I'll try to start a list.

Alllllll the cat pictures! XD Links to listicles and funny posts about cats. Shopping/recs for toys/collars/food/etc. Freedom to make silly posts about our own cats, no matter how small. (I feel a bit weird about posting "my cat did this thing today" to my own journal.)

Just ... anything, as long as it's cats.

I am all for fun links, funny posts, silly posts, and product recommendations with shop links AS LONG AS IT DOES NOT BECOME SPAM! Maybe we will make shopping Saturday when everyone can post their commercial "please buy my hand-crocheted cat princess costumes" etsy shop stuff.

Feel free to post all the weird things your cat does.

I overcame my feeling of imposing cats on others in my journal by setting up an access filter called "cats" and then I let subscribers opt into it. Then whenever I get too into the cats, I use the cat filter and no one has to see who didn't ask for it. So then I have no restraint at all! :)
